Pulpdent has donated 600 applications of Embrace Varnish and 400 applications of Embrace Pit & Fissure Sealant to Deserving Dental. Founded by Jennifer Geiselhofer, RDH, the Denver-based non-profit organization provides free preventative dental care and education inside homeless shelters, battered women shelters, human trafficking rescue centers, runaway youth shelters, correctional facilities, residential substance abuse treatment facilities, and homes for seniors and people living with disabilities.
Prior to Deserving Dental, Jennifer started Dental at Your Door, a for-profit organization that offers portable preventative dental care to people experiencing homelessness and living in shelters in the Greater Denver Area. While many of her patients carry some form of health insurance (Dental at Your Door accepts a variety of insurance policies, including Medicaid), Jennifer discovered a significant number of working poor earned too much to qualify for government assistance. In 2019 Jennifer founded Deserving Dental to offer free dental care to the many uninsured people living at the shelters where she works.
A standard appointment with Deserving Dental is 90 minutes and includes a medical history, X-rays, oral cancer screening, perio charting, and a cleaning. Jennifer spends a lot of time educating patients about oral health and many leave feeling inspired and empowered to take better care of themselves. Patients requiring more extensive dental care are referred to dentists and specialists in the local community. Over 90% of these referrals turn into follow-up visits.
Jennifer and her team use Pulpdent’s Embrace Varnish and Embrace WetBond Pit & Fissure Sealant on patients and have noticed high patient satisfaction. “The flavor is amazing and application is easy” Jennifer says in regards to the varnish. Jennifer also “loves the sealant and the fact that you don’t need a totally dry field”. Jennifer finds her work with Deserving Dental to be incredibly rewarding. She is able to make a direct impact on people’s health and well-being and shares stories of “men in their 40s and 50s that are literally crying when they see they have white teeth under that yellow tartar. Especially when they thought they would need extractions.” By providing free dental care, Deserving Dental is helping underserved populations to feel comfortable and confident in their own skin.
